Federal Self-Employed
For artists, athletes, and cultural figures
Overview
The Federal Self-Employed program is designed for applicants whose cultural or athletic experience can positively influence Canadian society — musicians, artists, writers, athletes, coaches, and other cultural professionals.
Applicants need at least two years of relevant experience within the last five years, or world-class cultural or athletic activity. A language credential of CLB 5+ and a minimum of 35 out of 100 points on the program’s selection grid are required.
Key requirements

- Language ability of CLB 5 or higher
- Minimum 35/100 points on the selection grid
- Evidence of achievements: awards, exhibitions, résumé
- Intent and ability to be self-employed in Canada
